“
Producers of the Future” is what to call them, as they are beyond
the stereotypical beatmakers that classify the majority of today’s
hip-hop. Los Angeles based production team, Da Riffs, have delivered
undeniable sound for EA Sports and a myriad of rappers, sending
undulating waves across the world.
Da Riffs have integrated their music throughout today’s top selling and most sought after video games. They have separated themselves from the flock of new producers by exercising their ability to create sample free instrumentation and produce up-to-the-minute diversified scores for genres outside of hip-hop, like pop, dancehall, drum‘n bass, R&B, and rock. Da Riffs have become one of EA Sports’ top priorities for feeding the beast of their ever-demanding need for music. Comprised of two beatsmiths, Eroc & Zed, have honed their craft for over a decade culminating their creative partnership in the founding of LA’s Red Room Studios in 2002. Eroc discovered his break when getting tired of championing both regional and national DJ battles, and discovering his love of production while his partner, Zed da AK Thunderfunk, a native Alaskan was breathing music into life as a toddler, and masterminding a myriad of instruments from guitar, piano, bass, and woodwinds. MTV has crowned their song with Def Jam recording artist Capone, “I Need Speed”, as their favorite song in EA’s notable driving game, Need 4 Speed. MTV is con-currently running a promotion on the game in conjunction with the audio from this Riffs production. In other EA news, Da Riffs recently completed the background score for EA Sports’ basketball spin-off, NBA Street Underground 2005, laying the sound to over 20 levels in the game, along with contributing a song with Casablanca recording artist, Ali Vegas entitled “I’m Too Street” for their jukebox feature. Additionally, they wrapped a song deal for NFL Street, with two rock/rap hybrid songs featuring Royce Da 5’9, another with Rock of Heltah Skeltah, and two hip-hop bangers with West Coast newcomer Bishop Lamont, and underground kingpin Planet Asia. Da Riffs have drawn many of bridges between developing artists and EA Sports. Atlanta rapper, Stat Quo & Da Riffs teamed up for a collaboration for Fight Night last year, with a smash called “Wanna Fight?” Soon after this song was recorded, Stat Quo signed with Dr. Dre and Eminem’s labels, a joint venture between the two; Aftermath and Shady Records respectively. Interscope hip-hop artist, JR Ewing as well did a song with Da Riffs for Fight Night & Madden, and actually received international acclaim, where he was flown out to China to perform a show solely based on their song, “Time To Git Dirty”. The production squad contributed songs to NHL, and to NBA Live, a song with dancehall toaster and Slip N Slide/Capitol recording artist, Don Yute called “Dem Gals”. In other video game news, Da Riffs scored multiple levels for Activision’s Tony Hawk 2004 game, which received the award for Best Video Game Soundtrack at MTV’s Video Music Awards earlier this summer. Also, they contributed a song with famed “King of the Underground”, RA the Rugged Man for the jukebox in that game. Redman & Method Man’s smash banger “I Will Not Lose” produced by Da Riffs, set off a huge buzz for the production group, and took off with the mixtapes, and at mixshow and college radio. “I Will Not Lose” received an honorable mention in The Source Magazine’s Fat Tape section, which highlights the hot songs from the month. Da Riffs have worked with the following artists; Stat Quo, Redman, Method Man, Capone, Royce da 5’9, Heltah Skeltah, Young Zee, Sly Boogie, Crooked I, Talib Kweli, Rah Digga, Killah Priest, Ali Vegas, Don Yute, Dave (De La Soul), Mainflow, King Tee, Strong Arm Steady, Defari, Black Thought (The Roots), Angel Faith, Brother Ali, Mr. Complex, Scipio, Bishop Lamont.
